SAVANNAH – Paul Donovan Strickler, 84, died Thursday, February 9, 2012, at The Oaks at The Marshes of Skidaway Island.
Paul was the only son of Guy and Maurie Strickler of Knox City, MO. He graduated from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO in 1949 with a B.A. in Chemistry. His degree was interrupted in 1945 with a short stint in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO and graduated in 1952 with a Masters degree in Chemistry.
Mr. Strickler went to work for Spencer Chemical Company and then Gulf Oil which later became Chevron Oil. He was a member and elder of the Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church; a member of the Landings Club; of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity; American Chemical Society; American Men of Science; a founding member of the Skidaway Island Kiwanis Club; and the local Habitat for Humanity Group; as well as a member of several commercial organizations.
In 1948 Paul married Dorothy Sue Hall of Clarence, MO. They lived primarily in Kansas City, MO and Pittsburgh, PA before moving to The Landings, Skidaway Island, Savannah, GA in 1986. In 1995 he and "Dottie" spent several months in Houston, TX where he received a heart transplant.
He is survived by his wife "Dottie"; a daughter, Laura Trotter Greg, of Orlando, FL; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Strickler of Moberly, MO; two granddaughters, Shannon Forester and Tobi Strickler; four great-grandchildren, Eli, Shelby, and Hayley Forester and Beau Garrett; sister, Carolyn Simpson Doyle; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Strickler was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Hall Strickler.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012, at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church.

Dear Dottie--Please accept our sympathy on your loss. When we were little, getting together with Paul was high on our agenda on our summer trips to Knox City.
